Joint Fixation

Our joints are made to move freely without effort.  The friction of our joints is said to be 8 times slippery than ice gliding on ice.  As we age and/or injuries occur to our joints, the surfaces of the joints tend to roughen increasing the friction and the effort needed to move them.  Some joints may get to the point that they do not move at all.  Joints do not have direct blood supply after childhood.  They count on free movement to move fluids and nutrients in and out of the joint spaces to stay healthy.  This is not possible in a fixated joint.  The lack of joint movement can further cause degeneration of the joints and the discs.  Dr. Stoebe and Dr. Matury use chiropractic manipulation to increase movement between joints.  This can reduce the friction and aid in increasing the fluid and nutrient exchange within the joints and discs.  This is also accomplished by the application of Active Release Techniques.  You can find out more on this procedure by continuing to explore our website.

There are a significant number of studies on the safety and efficacy of spinal manipluation for treating back pain.  Many can be found on the INTERNET by simply searching "chiropractic research".
